Soon to be an Action Item
Holocaust Remembrance Day begins April 11th. In the Jewish calendar, a holiday begins on the sunset of the previous day, so observing Jews will celebrate The Holocaust Remembrance Day on the sunset of Saturday, the 10th of April. Unless those Jews are living in Israel. Then they will be commemorating on April 12th, beginning on sunset, April 11th. Got that?
This isn’t an Action Item – yet. But we can expect it to be.
Basically the Destroy Israel Lobby has four responses to the Shoah†
- Denial: Israel is seen to be gaining benefit by the Shoah. Therefore it didn’t happen. Somehow the ‘all-powerful’ Jews have been able for the past 65 years, to decieve and blackmail the world, including the Germans, into believing the greatest hoax of all time. Iranian President Ahmadinejad and Palestinian Authority President Citizen Abbas are leading supporters of this approach. It’s not unusual to find triple loonies. That is, Deniers (… of the Shoah); Truthers (9/11 was staged by the US government) and Birthers (Pres. Obama was not born in the United States and therefore not eligible to be P.O.T.U.S.) . For some reason, outside the purpose of this site to explore, Climate Change Deniers AKA Man Made Global Warming Denialists‡ very rarely deny the events of the Shoah.
- Redirection: Israel is seen to be gaining benefit by the Shoah but it did happen. At this point they divide into different camps. One group takes the view that this was all a European problem. So why should the ‘innocent’ Palestinians suffer? The other group calls Israel the new Nazis, occasionally extending this to worse than the Nazis. Five Minutes for Israel takes the view that if Israel is conducting genocide it is the least successful genocide, ever as Palestinian numbers have risen about 18X since 1948. Unfortunately for that argument, there is a a legal definition of genocide in the 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (CPPCG) †† that extends the definition so widely that everybody is guilty of genocide. I point out that makes the Palestinians guilty on at least three points.
- Inclusive: Israel is seen to be gaining a benefit by the Shoah that should be shared by all victims of every holocaust. A cute variation on this response combines with the redirection response, above. That way Arabs and Muslims and their supporters in the Destroy Israel Lobby can boycott Holocaust Remembrance events because they don’t simultaneously accuse Israel of conducting genocide.
- Warranted: Israel is seen to be punished prematurely by the Shoah for the crimes they would commit against the Palestinians, in the future. That Israel didn’t exist in 1945 and that the Shoah was directed at Jews in general is ignored, in this argument. This time-traveling does have a certain Islamic logic. From a Koranic perspective, Mohammad was not the first Muslim prophet but the last and greatest of a stream of ‘Muslim’ ‘prophets’ including Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jesus and John the Baptist among others. It follows that an event in the past to punish an event to occur in the future makes Islamic sense, whatever Einstein might have said about it.
Like much Destroy Israel Lobby propaganda those who will be writing Op-Eds for Holocaust Remembrance Day don’t feel the urge for consistency and are quite capable of mix-and-matching responses even in the same article.
We should all be on the lookout for these Action Items and post them on 5mfi.com. They should not go unanswered.
† There’s an argument that I won’t get into at this time that the Nazi holocaust against the Jews wasn’t unique. The claim is that genocide was practised in Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda, Darfur and also Armenia and Tasmania. Even during the Nazi period there was persecution arguably amounting to genocide against the mentally retarded, homosexuals and Gypsies in addition to the Jews. For this reason Five Minutes for Israel prefers to use the Hebrew word Shoah except when I forget and use the word Holocaust.
‡ Those who ridicule the very involved claims around catastrophic climate change often resent the implication that denying global warming (a matter of computer model predictions) is in any way comparable to Holocaust denial (verifiable history). As Denier is used exclusively for the Shoah they prefer to be called Skeptics but settle for Denialists.
††Article 2 of this convention defines genocide as “any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, as such: killing members of the group; causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life, calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; [and] forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.” Because of the insistence of Joseph Stalin, this definition of genocide under international law does not include political groups.
